Wensleydale Lamb

Introducing Wensleydale Lamb

The Wensleydale breed are beautiful large sheep famous for their lustrous longwool fleece of tight long ringlets. I designed a sweet little Wensleydale lamb with reverse stocking stitch to represent the fuzzy baby wool that they are born with. Searching through images of Wensleydale lambs was a very enjoyable part of the design process!

Our lamb has the large sticking out ears I found so adorable in photos of Wensleydale lambs. The face and legs are knit in stocking stitch and I added a cupped cable feature along the back to add more texture and interest. I do like the idea of knitting the stocking stitch parts in the coal colour of Dovestone DK, but she’d look lovely in any of the colours. She’s quite straightforward to knit with adorable results.
